OUR FOUNDER
Sophia Nyanzi Mulindwa, a passionate advocate for positive change for the lives of the less privileged.
Her mission is to empower the marginalized and impoverished people in Africa through community-based programs that expand education, improve health care, ensure free access to clean water and offer entrepreneurship skills to the less fortunate for continued sustainability.
Over the years, She has supported several organizations in community support work including being a board member of National Cancer Awareness Association (NACAS).
She was born and raised in Kampala-Uganda where she lived with her father and siblings.
Her mother, the late Mariam Kekigombe passed away when she was 4 years old due to maternal health complications, so she was raised by her father, who instilled the culture of charity in all his children and often reminded them that giving was better than receiving.
“You always have enough to share” where he always stretched his hand out to anyone that was in need.
He would provide shelter, food, clothing, school fees, pay medical bills, offer free counseling to anyone for as long as it within his capacity. The term “stranger” was not used in our home as he always said; “There are no strangers; only people waiting to become your friends, if only you would give them a chance”
Unfortunately, he suffered a stroke that had the family nurse him for a period close to 10 years. Adjusting to the new way of life, which involved a wheelchair, specialized treatment, extensive hospital bills which were financially and emotionally challenging.
He developed a heart condition that was a result of the stroke, underwent two heart surgeries, but unfortunately passed away due to heart failure-in 2017.
His legacy together with the death of my mother were part of the inspiration behind the birth of AYITAH CHARITY FOUNDATION which through its programs, aims to address health care issues and help transform lives in the poverty-stricken communities.
